But they don't offer read aloud feature i.e. voice summary of the news.</div><div><br></div><div>I just want to click play and want to listen to the bite-sized news one by one instead of scrolling through them visually. I know that Google Assistant &amp; other voice based assistants do offer news but they are usually auto-summarized web article or snippets from the TV news; both of them are not as good as the human summarized news content.<br><br>I would like a service which could convert these text based human summary of news to audio or a human voice summary of news itself.<br></div> 5 points posted by Ashoka /problems/200-human-voice-summary-of-news-news-voice 200 Wed, 03 Mar 2021 17:31:00 +0000 Get me the news I need, not the news I want #news #information I'm tired of the hate mongering, cognitive bias rich, mindless advertisement fuelled News media be it on Internet or Television or Radio or even traditional Paper medium.<div><br></div><div>When I say Internet, I don't mean just the websites, but also mobile Apps with infinite scroll which has put pressure on the News Agencies to produce content at a blistering rate, resulting in low quality content without any editorial oversight or fact checking or even proofreading.</div><div><br></div><div>I'm tired of these News medium exploiting my FOMO, I'm convinced that 99.9% of the news I consume every day has just information I don't need, Information I will never use in my life, at least in the foreseeable future. There is a need to reward users for performing functions which would encourage critical thinking to find answers in news and fight misinformation at the same time.&nbsp; 3 points posted by Chamira /problems/314-lack-of-critical-thinking-when-consuming-news-news-thinkingaboutthinking 314 Mon, 11 Oct 2021 20:36:00 +0000 Too many email newsletters, hard to manage #newsletter #email Email letters is where a lot of the great content is these days. But this becomes a hindrance for submission forums like HackerNews, Reddit etc. When the sites with paywall are avoided, the websites looses potentially large number of visitors from these submission forums and thereby potential subscribers.<br></div><div><br></div><div>One trick which is commonly used in these submission sites is to include the archive.org URL of the news article which bypasses the paywall in several news websites but not all e.g. Financial Times, But this results in the news website loosing all traffic from the submission forums.<br></div><div><br></div><div>News websites can disable the paywall based on the source like they do for social media, But perhaps a paywall service which can detect high traffic sources and disable paywall automatically could be useful for these news sites.<br></div> 3 points posted by Abishek Muthian /problems/229-paywall-avoidance-for-submission-sites-monetization-news 229 Thu, 20 May 2021 05:35:00 +0000 Single subscription for multiple news sources #news #subscription User yummybear on HN <a href="https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=30526127">says</a>, <blockquote>Not OC, but the thing with most of these international media articles is I want to read an ft.com article maybe once per year.
