I would like to have a mechanism by which users can check their mental health regularly themselves through a series of standardised tests. This would be very useful for someone with hereditary mental illness and would like to keep a tap on their mental health.

There are numerous occasions by which someone may be at the risk of mental illness apart from hereditary reasons e.g. environment, age, side-effect from infections of implants, accidents, medication etc.

An easily accessible system with which a user can track the progress of their mental health would bring more awareness towards mental health and its treatment. A fitbit for mental health?

I'm looking for regularly updated country's ranking based on various factors such as democracy, freedom of speech, weather, infrastructure, economy, healthcare, crime rate, justice, progressiveness, science&technology, climate action plan, immigration policies etc. for immigration.

I could find different websites with data for above categories with different levels of updating, intuitiveness but I think there is a need gap for a single website which ranks countries with updated empirical data with easily accessible interface with focus on immigration.

How ancient architectures looked like via VR #Architecture #VR

Recently I came across an article which showed how Pyramid at Giza looked like in 2560 BCE during its pristine condition. The limestone finish was breathtaking, unlike anything we remember current day pyramids by.

Reconstruction of such ancient architectures digitally when they were at their pristine would give us fresh perspective and appreciation of human efforts of that time. It would be more immersive if we could also take a virtual tour of the reconstructed interior architectures of the ancient wonders via Virtual Reality.

I feel VR and Simulation tech is at a such a phase now that, this need gap for creating a new experience of ancient wonders can be fulfilled and with tourism industry growing stronger; there can be commercial viability for such a product as well.

There is need gap for alternatives to mobile Internet via cellular network, the closest solution being WiFi hotspots. But, WiFi hotspots being run by monopolies doesn't protect the openness of the Internet.

Opening home, office, personal WiFi to the public without password protection addresses this, that's exactly what Open Wireless Movement aimed to achieve with custom router firmware. But, goodwill alone rarely reaches scalability; how about sharing WiFi for money? I'm not the first to suggest that, OpenGarden tried to do it in vain.

I'm quite certain that the above projects failed because of the need to run custom firmwares on WiFi routers, which is a large friction for homes/offices or individuals who don't know about it or have the right hardware. With the availability of cheaper network hardware, better open network software stack, I think the need gap for sharing WiFi with public for subscription commission can now be achieved.

How can we do it?

Organisations like OpenAI are doing a commendable job in democratising Artificial Intelligence software stack i.e. opensource AI tools accessible to anyone and not just the big firms. But democratisation of hardware required for Machine Learning or Deep Learning is nowhere in sight.

GPU is already a big bottleneck for an individual/startup from a poor economic region. Considering, even entry level Software Engineering jobs now expect the candidates to know ML; it is imposing a huge disadvantage over a large sector of students from poor countries. AI accelerator hardware like TPU, Graphcore AI available to only big cloud companies would further worsen this.

This issue has largely to do with how semiconductor industry by itself is structured. With only handful of fabrication plants capable of mass producing semiconductors of this nature and they being integral part of 'soft power' in Geo-politics; it's hard for a startup to enter this space and when they do, they have no option to tie-up with these cloud companies.

Not only 'AI powered end product' will increase the inequality; but the ML education/research already has.

Even when thousands of online accounts get hacked each week due to weak passwords, people continue to use them. Even though free random(pseudo) password generator apps are available for years now, it hasn't gained large adoption.

Passwords by design rely on weakness in human psych - memory; we cannot generate or remember random passwords which are secure.

It's time to do away with passwords completely and come up with seamless, secure alternative which can work for a layman or security professional alike.

Thanks to smartphone, we take inordinate amount of photographs. We edit the photographs before posting it to the social networks or chat apps to look the best of ourselves or at least we like to think so!

But, we cannot edit others in a group photo or group selfie as editing how others look in our photograph without their consent seems inappropriate and so most of the time only the person who owns the smartphone in which the group photo/selfie was taken gets to edit the picture.

I would like an app which allows editing group photo in realtime collaboratively, across all platforms and agree upon a final version once every one in the picture has approved.

Say, I'm a programmer; I would like to know the changes in the new version of a programming language I use, changes in the APIs I use, changes in the technology concerning my area of work.

But it's just not the technology which can affect a career, from economic slowdown to rising sea levels could have an impact on a career. Currently there is no individual solution to connect the dots and watch the micro changes related to one's job.

I would like an app which can take specific inputs about my job description, analyse possible career trajectories and monitor micro changes related to those careers and give appropriate suggestions to pursue.

Due to the exponential growth in the LCD/OLED display technologies larger, higher resolution, higher frame rate displays are more affordable than ever, But the E Ink external displays or E Ink computer monitors remains elusive from large adoption in the consumer market.

There are large E Ink external displays available for a while now from the likes of Dasung, Onyx but due to higher price e.g. $700 to $1000 for 13.3" E Ink display, where as a 4K 32" color LCD display monitor is available for ~ $200. Higher price of E Ink display slows adoption and slower adoption keeps these display prices high and new entrants to the E Ink market.

Of-course E Ink display use is limited to document consumption due to its monochrome colors and low refresh rates. But considering document consumption (browsing articles) or activities requiring low refresh rate (e.g. coding) occupies majority of screen time for many professionals, An E Ink display can serve them well.

Many who have used E Ink Kindle's browser to browse web in the newer frontlight models would vouch its positive effect on the eyes.

Almost every review for accessories of a newly launched product I see on Amazon India is a fake review e.g. Smartphone case, Tempered glass etc. I see that reviewers have left similar, positive reviews with 5 stars rating for several other products.

I'm sure this is not just limited to Amazon India, as I could find other news detailing the ways the sellers employ common people to give fake reviews in the promise of free goodies. So, this practice must be common among several sellers across different ecommerce sites.

I would want a service which can differentiate fake reviews and genuine reviews seamlessly in the ecommerce sites.

There are host of food recipes available online in different websites and apps but no versatile mechanism to store the ones we like in an easily retrievable manner.

There is a need gap for a tool/service which allows us to save recipes from different websites, apps and retrieve as and when needed. If the tool can generate nutritional/calorie information and cost information for the stored recipe in the background; it could be an added advantage when using the recipe instead of having to search for the calorie information in different websites.

Devices which are connected to the power strips draw power even when they are not in use, experts say this standby power consumption in an average home ranges from 5 percent to 10 percent of household energy consumption. It supposedly accounts for 1 percent of worldwide carbon dioxide emissions.

Current smart power strips available on the market address this by cutting off power supply when the demand for power reduces there by signifying that the device is in standby mode. This works well for devices without battery e.g. Television, Music System etc. But, a smartphone would begin charging again at 99% thereby triggering power demand on the power strip frequently.

Smartphones and other similar devices with batteries have overcharging protection so they cutoff power demand at 100%, when the power depletes to 99% the charging would be resumed again. I would want a smart power strip which gets realtime battery statistics from the smartphone and cut off power supply when the optimum battery level is reached e.g. 80% and automatically start power supply again when the battery has reached low level e.g. 40%.

Every day tasks such as charging our smartphone to taking a flight leaves a carbon footprint thereby having an impact on the climate and environment. Some lesser than others, but even those with less carbon footprint for an individual can make large impact on the climate when entire population is considered.

I want easier ways to calculate carbon footprint and other things which impact the climate due to my regular activities. Current climate change, environmental awareness is all about shaming people for their actions rather than constructive ways to mitigate those actions.

I think better climate change awareness is the need of the hour, fulfilling the need gap of easier way to calculate our personal impact on climate could help that.

Drone technology, apart from numerous peaceful use cases has become a force multiplier for offensive operations. Drones capable of inflicting damage on infrastructure, lives are not only limited to nations with large defence budget, but has been effectively used by unorganised groups to cause large scale damages due to the low cost of developing and operating a drone force.

Malicious or accidental use of drones in airports have wreaked havoc. Drones are not limited only to air, explosive laden drone boats have already been used in the conflict.

Current counter-drone or anti-drone tech involves blocking signal to the drone for forcing it to land, hacking and use of physical force to destroy drones. The rise of auto pilot, anti-jamming/hacking, swarm tech would render existing counter-drone measures obsolete and hence the need gap for efficient area denial counter-drone technology.

When I haven't watched the latest episode of a very famous show or haven't watched a famous movie, I am forced to go off the grid (off Internet) until I have watched the show or movie because of the spoilers.

Currently I am using blocker plugins on browsers such as Ublock Origin to block comment section of certain websites, unsubscribe from subreddits related to that show or movie to prevent spoilers. These methods are not efficient, in turn loose the benefits of comments and non-spoiler content from my favourite subreddits as well.

Many times I like the work of a member from a film crew such as, cinematographer, visual effects director, music composer, stunt coordinator, dialogue writer, director etc. who are not actors or at-least not lead actors. I feel they don't get the attention they deserve in making a movie great.

I want to follow the latest work of a cinematographer, visual effects director, dialogue writer, stunt coordinator etc. I liked in a movie. Actors, especially lead actors get stupendous coverage on television and online; but others from the film crew who had put exemplary effort don't get covered about their latest work.

A fan like me who would like to know about the latest work of these professionals, would watch a movie/series for their work but have no mechanism to get the required information and hence the need gap. Of course, some of them might have twitter accounts; but I would like to get updates on just their latest work and not their personal/world views; so Twitter doesn't fill this need gap.

I am fed up with love/romantic songs which are mostly misogynistic, sexualising women. I have nothing against love/romance as such, but I am bored of music when every song in the playlists of the music apps is a love song.

It is either, what a man feels about a women, or a women singing about her exes, rap about every external body part of women, men singing about non reciprocating love feelings and vice versa. Is that all lyricists can do?

Music is an essential part of human civilisation, I reject the idea that we can create only love songs now. I want playlists ordered by lyrics like Philosophy, History, Science, Motivational, Pets, Vehicles, Love etc. I am sure there are songs in the past which fits into every one of those categories and more.

Perhaps this would motivate the music creators to write better songs.

Almost every major cosmetic brand in India is pitching on making skin fairer indulging in extremely false advertising, while rest of the developed world has moved on to skin care products. Skin care is the largest growing segment of the cosmetic industry in the western countries.

I want computer output to be displayed as stereo vision on my eye glasses, just like any external monitor. This would be indispensable for anyone with accessibility issues and could improve productivity for even those without any medical issues if they want to operate their computer while lying flat on the bed.

When I was confined to the bed during recovery from debilitating surgery, I scoured for such a device which could help display computer output to my eyes while I lay on the bed but couldn't fine one which fills this need gap.

There are devices which advertise to fulfil such requirement, but fails to deliver their intended purpose. There are wired attachments to eye glasses, which project output from HDMI, but these are limited by resolution of the output and doesn't offer stereo vision i.e. it works on the single eye. There are full-fledged stereo vision glasses which display certain media services, web browser, FPV video feed as Picture-In-Picture (PIP) but not direct output from the computer.

Display and stereo vision optics technologies have grown exponentially thanks to VR, wireless wearable low latency display need gap should be fulfilled.

I feel censorship on a movie, is against the artistic freedom and against the freedom of expression by itself. In my opinion a film should be rated for its content, to watch it or not should be under the discretion of the adult who pays for it.

Unfortunately, not all countries respect the artistic freedom or freedom of expression itself and so international movies which gets released in these countries are censored for various reasons including but not limited to adult content, gore, violence, language, political etc.

Often, I find that the international movies which are subjected to censorship has discontinuity and the viewers are robbed of the complete experience which their peers from the countries where movies aren't censored get.

I would like to know which part of the movie is censored, for what and how much does the scene(s) affect the continuity of the movie, so that I can decide whether I would want to spend my money in watching that movie in a theatre (or) should I wait for it to arrive in the Netflix or Amazon Prime or where ever the uncensored version of the movie is available.

Often I come across a situation on the web where I have to spend time deciphering whether the character is English alphabet O or the number 0 but almost always get it wrong. Due to seemingly unlimited number of fonts on the web, websites especially one involving some random alphanumeric codes often suffer from this issue.

I think, this is purposeful for captcha to deliberately put automated tools into misery; but this happens way too often with general text i.e those which are not in captcha as well.

I would like to have some kind of tool, which helps me differentiate 0 from O and vice versa on demand.

Each individual has their own preferred ambient temperature, this becomes a problem in the offices where individual temperature control is often not possbile and this leaves employees wanting higher or lower temperature than what's set.

This is especially bad for women, research shows that women feel more cold than men and so in an office with more men than women; temperature control issues are obvious.

There is a need gap for a product/service which takes individual temperature preference from each employee in the air-conditioning zone and sets the optimum temperature for that zone. This product/service should take into consideration, the weather and other variable factors and provide optimum temperature automatically.

I think this could also benefit the employers in power savings, improve productivity apart from the obvious well-being of the employees.

Current dating platforms in-spite of collecting large amounts of data on its individuals, fails to provide optimum results as I think its algorithms are tuned for In-App purchases rather than perfect match.

What I would like to have is an app on smartphone which doesn't connect to a central server but connects to other smartphones with the app. I would load all my dating preferences, down to the minutest detail without fear of judgement or prejudice in the app and when the app notices similar preferences in another smartphone it'll notify me.

So, in a party, in an event, social gathering, community service I can meet interesting people without even having to start a conversion albeit not having to compromise on my privacy.

Hence, there is a need gap for such decentralized dating platforms.

In sales days (Black Friday for example), there are a lot of people trying to enter stores and usually the parking spaces are full and you have to wait until somebody leaves the parking lot. It will do a lot of service for people to reserve their spot earlier so they find a parking spot easily.

As for now, there are no apps that makes the parking spot reservation for you so you can enter the parking lot enter and leave quickly so you don't waste time driving all the morning until you find that sweet spot.

It is really annoying when the music on my headphones starts to glitch the moment I move away from my mobile/ipad, I mean what's the point of it being wireless for a very limited range, obviously bluetooth is a low power tech and won't give you the ranges that technologies like wifi promise but for a start it would be great if headphones had the capability to store the next 10-15 songs so that I don't have to worry about keeping my phone with me all the time.

There can be other applications of the tech like an inbuilt walkman/ipod inside the headphones but my concern for now is to nothing but to improve the music listening experience.

Amazon is flooded with fake, cheaply built, low quality products. I spend lot my of my time sorting out good products from poor quality products.

How about an Amazon for just high quality products? A eCommerce platforms where the products and sellers are thoroughly vetted for quality, other aspects valuable to the customers (e.g. Environment, Ethics etc.), So the customers need not base their buying decisions just on customer reviews which are often fake themselves.

I would like help noticing problems that seem too small to worry about myself, but have already been solved by other people, so I can take advantage of these known solutions.

For example, if I'm washing dishes by hand, and I don't really mind any individual instance of washing that much, it could still be nicer to buy a dishwasher anyway. Perhaps I don't know that there exists a non-leaky portable dishwasher; it could be nice to be given that idea as a suggestion.

Currently my best idea is just to focus on whatever is the single biggest problem and investigate how to solve that, but that doesn't address problems that are common to many people and that have easier solutions.

Unfortunately this seems to be complicated by a few factors, including the fact that various people can disagree about ways to fix things, and also that others people can feel more strongly about an issue than I do.

Those who wear spectacles have to put up with another drag when wearing masks - The fog which forms over the glasses with every breath.

I've tried different solutions from wipes, sprays to gels although only the gel seems to do something but I'm not keen on putting chemicals on glasses in proximity to the eyes.

How are you managing the fogging of glasses when wearing mask and what can be done about it.

I recently had a conversation with someone who is suffering from Sjögren's syndrome a type of Autoimmune Disease, time to get diagnosed for this disease seems to be a big problem.

20-40 doctor visits for diagnosis seems to be very high for any medical condition, let alone for such debilitating condition.

I'm posting this problem, So others can share their experience and perhaps if there is a need gap we could come up with a solution.

I use mobile and desktop devices on multiple ecosystems, and I'm sure many use even more devices than I do, across an even greater number of dissimilar platforms in a modern world that is increasingly fragmented on those lines and where interoperability is frequently commoditised by the likes of Apple. Platform-agnostic solutions enabling convenient handoff (e.g. links, images) between devices on different platforms, in a way suited to each platform, is desperately needed. Also desirable would be configurability of rules, allowing for items to be handed off to other devices with processing rules on the terminus device.

Many of us maintain our own library of content through several read-it-later apps like Pocket, Evernote, Instapaper etc. but forget what we saved, but we saved the content for a reason and would be great if we could retrieve the content when we need especially when searching in the browser.

Right now browsers display the content from our bookmarks, history when we start typing on the address bar. It would be even better if the browsers could also display content from our read-it-later library as we type on the browser address bar; It would save us lot of time by giving the content we already saved for a reason before instead of searching anew.

I have several side projects and each time I shutdown a project I have to archive each and every web page of my project website individually at Wayback Machine as the ability to archive entire website seems to be available only for large organizations through their Archive-It program.

I feel there is a need gap for a service to save entire websites permanently on the Internet available to small website owners as well.

I'm imagining a platform for local retailers where customers can search for products in a similar way they do on Amazon and see where those products are available in their neighborhood.

They can then reserve or pay directly and pick them up later or get them delivered to whereever they want.

I know some retailers offer to check store availibility on their website but this quickly turns into a comparison across mulitple websites and then you still have only some of the potential results.

Many kids are being exposed to screen more than the daily ideal limit due to being required to finish their homework and submissions. A service that can generate offline printable playful quiz/homework forms for google classroom and other services might be useful. These days the search results from google are full of low quality affiliate marketing blogs. On the other hand, the products recommended on Reddit are generally good. Someone should create a search engine for products recommended on Reddit.

Karma alone cannot be used to determine if a particular product is good. For example, Nexus 5x is one of the most mentioned smartphone on r/Android but its mostly all about of bootloop complains. So sentiment analysis is needed to find whether the post/comment about the product is positive or not.

Another challenge is extracting the product name from the comments. For example, on r/PCMasterRace most people wont link to individual products but would just mention the products.

What do you guys think?

There's always a gap between the time when a meeting starts and when it was supposed to start. It is always complicated to manage time for meetings.

I think it should be useful to have an app that uses machine learning for meetings. What problem would be solved with something like that? Due to the COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic, people have hoarded all kinds of respirators and face masks including surgical masks, N95 rated masks. This is likely to sell later with jacked up prices, leading to severe shortage among hospital staff, health workers and in countries with severe COVID-19 disease impact.

I got common cold, I thought I would wear a surgical mask to prevent the spread and avoid scare/panic in this tough times; alas I couldn't find any surgical masks locally and only at extraordinarily prohibitive prices online.

I wish a startup could come up with an innovative way to develop respirators/masks at a cheap rate and distribute it where required; after-all business is about opportunities right?

When I read a good article from a random blog or website, I would like to read other top rated content from the same website. By top rated, I mean the most visited and shared content from the same website.

Most websites don't have any widget to rank their best articles. I would like to know if there is any tool which one can use to get the top ranked content from any website and if not is there a need gap for this?

Recently, a manager in the company I work for got caught for siphoning off money via fake invoices to the company. I came to know via my friends that this is a common occurrence and has occurred in some of their companies as well.

There are different types of invoice fraud, employee perpetrated fraud seems to be one of the common ways. Some has even gone to the lengths of setting up fake business to bill out $6 Million from their employer.

In other forms of invoice fraud, criminals convince account payable of businesses to payout a false invoice; even behemoths like Google and Facebook have fallen victim to this. Invoice fraud is said to cost small businesses Billions every year.

I think there is a need gap in detecting false invoices and streamlining the process of invoice payments altogether.
