• I feel that's an underestimation of consumer intelligence, people who need better transfer rate are buying computers with thunderbolt interface over USB 3.x by paying a premium.


    Cost of consumer storage is decreasing while performance has increased exponentially due to new tech such as solid-state and interfaces such as NVMe; there are consumers who are still buying traditional HDD, yet since there is an increasing need for better transfer rates new storage products with exponential transfer rates over HDD is released each year in the consumer space.

    Likewise, IMO there will be initial takers for hardware compression in the consumer space from media professionals, data science professionals i.e. anyone who deals with large data and if the tech proves itself it will eventually trickle down to those consumers who doesn't care what's happening inside their device.
