Only way to differentiate between a missed call and an accidental call is the number of times the phone rang i.e. one who really called would likely wait till the end of all rings and the one who dialled by accident would likely end the call as soon as it is found.
So, if the missed call alert shows the number of rings (or) the duration of the rings then it would be easier to asses whether someone really tried to call me or was it just an accidental call.
I think, this would be a useful feature to have and hence there is a need gap for such a feature.
That's a nifty need gap. Missed call alerts which tell the number of rings or duration of rings would be definitely be useful, but as you say it's a feature at best.
This should be implemented by the phone manufacturers or operating system developers themselves as 3rd party apps has no access to the call features of both android, iOS nowadays for security reasons except for spam identification and calling app.
Perhaps, after market android ROMs and jailbroken iOS apps offer such feature; but that would mean a compromise in the security.
I do not want to mess my hands with aftermarket firmware and jailbreaking, I wish manufacturers noticed this needgap.
