Due to the COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic, people have hoarded all kinds of respirators and face masks including surgical masks, N95 rated masks. This is likely to sell later with jacked up prices, leading to severe shortage among hospital staff, health workers and in countries with severe COVID-19 disease impact.
I got common cold, I thought I would wear a surgical mask to prevent the spread and avoid scare/panic in this tough times; alas I couldn't find any surgical masks locally and only at extraordinarily prohibitive prices online.
I wish a startup could come up with an innovative way to develop respirators/masks at a cheap rate and distribute it where required; after-all business is about opportunities right?

I appreciate you wanting to use a face mask to prevent spreading your flu and that's exactly what WHO advised; masks should be used by those who are infected and by health workers; sadly all masks have been hoarded.

Sure, but please keep in mind that this type of DIY masks doesn't protect you against viruses or other aerosols due to larger pore size and should considered to be used only as a last resort.
Understood, but it would have been great if there was some other readily available material which could be used to build face masks just as easily, but with better protection.
Tracy, I've been testing different materials which can substitute coffee filter while offering better protection as a DIY face mask/respirator. I have reasons to believe 'Qualitative Filter' based face mask does that.
Thank you very much Abishek, I have completely read your work and it does seem like 'Qualitative Filter Paper' is better than 'Coffee Filter Paper'. I have ordered some Qualitative Filter Paper and I am eager to make this.
