▲ ▼ Remote Daycare for Children
Now that almost all of us are working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, single parents are facing a tough time in taking care of their children and their work at the same time.
I'm unable to focus on my work and especially conference calls when having a hyperactive young child besides me. Since, we are all trying to follow physical distancing; there is no question of allowing a baby sitter from outside.
I was thinking if a remote daycare i.e. someone trusted (like those who are already working in daycare centres) could monitor the child via Skype or Facetime and engage them with games, videos etc. So that the parent can do their work in peace.
I expect this to be a need gap faced among single parents with no help all over the world, if so I would like to hear your story and solutions.
https://goodnightzoom.com/ is a platform that provides storytime with parents an isolated senior, may be a good fit for this!
Hey that's awesome, I didn't know someone was already building something I needed. Thanks for letting me know!
So, did you find the children themselves calm and engaging with the seniors or did the children required adult supervision locally during the activity?
New York Times has written an elaborate piece detailing the problem parents face with school-aged children face during this pandemic - "In the Covid-19 Economy, You Can Have a Kid or a Job. You Can’t Have Both".
I cried while reading it, the author has perfectly put the pain faced by parents and especially working moms during this pandemic in words. Thanks for sharing.
Do you think a remote daycare can solve this?
I think at least some part of the problem can be addressed with a 'remote daycare for children' like a parent unable to focus on work as the child needs to be occupied with some activity (or) a child with nanny needs to be constantly monitored via camera which someone remotely could do it as well.
This thread is receiving large number of visitors organically from search engines for the query 'remote daycare', if you are a new visitor who came to this discussion with via a search; can you tell us what you are looking for so that we could build a solution for it i.e. Are you are parent looking for a remote daycare for your children (or) are you looking for an employment in a remote daycare?
What you are suggesting does have some foundation in it, I know several grandparents monitoring their grandchildren & their care taker when the parents are out at work via IP Cameras. The catch here is that the child is not alone, but with a care taker.
Thank you, could your kindly ask those grandparents you know on whether they would be willing to engage with a random child for some money; just as a market survey?
I agree that the child shouldn't be too young for this kind of service, Age 5-10 is what I had in mind as well!
Sure, be advised that they are just 'monitoring' not actively engaging with the children; for that the solution would require daycare professionals working with children.
Ha! That's indeed a good solution, I wonder whether it worked well for that mom.
