▲ ▼ Disinfecting amazon packages
Everyone is ordering from Amazon or other ecommerce sites to stock up and prepare for the next lockdown. But when I see the packages on my door step, I'm worried whether they have COVID-19 virus on it and I'm sure there are many others who feel the same way.
I'm spending an awful lot of time disinfecting the Amazon delivery packages, before taking it inside the house. Some days, I have to repeat this 4-5 time; each time I get a package delivered. Disinfecting the package isn't an easy task as well, I have to gear up each time, ensure that the disinfectant doesn't get inside the package and dispose the protective gear carefully.
I wish there was an easy and safe way to disinfect the packages received from ecommerce sites or any other postal delivery. How are you all solving this problem?
Actually, I've been using a portable UV disinfection light for taking packages. I brought one online after a friend suggested it at the start of the pandemic. Just shine it on the package for a while and bring it inside. It's also costs much lesser than liquid disinfectants (the initial purchase is the only significant cost involved) so I've been pretty satisfied with it.
Thanks for your comment, I did try hand held UV light earlier to disinfect packages earlier, but the whole operation seemed clumsy as I had to move the package with my hand while disinfecting it, I wasn't really sure on how much time I should focus the light on each side and whether every part of the package got disinfected. It seemed to me like a normal disinfectant liquid did a better job as I could see the disinfectant on the whole package with my eyes.
Are you using a hand held UV light or something better?
This sure is a problem with urgent need gap faced by many.
I think, the best way to address this would be an easy removable, anti-microbial, recyclable, disposable cover on the top of regular amazon package which can be removed easily and discarded outside our house appropriately. Idea being, we needn't disinfect the package as we're removing the outer cover and disposing it safely.
If Amazon and other ecommerce sites use such a cover over their packages then we can hopefully address this problem.
Hey, that can actually work. If there was an easily disposable cover on the top of regular package, I can just rip it off out side our house and put it directly in the bin.
Amazon, hope you are listening!
Covid dies very quickly outside the human body, it spreads by droplets that get suspended in the air.
You won't get it from Amazon packages and there is no need to disinfect them. Wash your hands and you'll be fine.
Instead, what you should do if you want to stay healthy is AVOID BEING INDOORS WITH OTHER PEOPLE.
