A GitHub awesome list is collection of related GitHub repositories on a topic. E.g. Here is an awesome list on Free programming e-books - https://github.com/EbookFoundation/free-programming-books/blob/master/books/free-programming-books.md .
When I encounter such lists, I have to check each project for their GitHub stars (rating by users) for their popularity. If the stars are displayed besides the repositories, It can help me save time.
