▲ ▼ No job opportunities for self-taught programmers
I've been learning a lot of programming (full stack development) and while checking the job boards, most jobs will require you to have a CS degree, which many programmers don't have and it will be a disadvantage once they begin applying for jobs. Since most people can't afford to go to college once again, it will be difficult for a person to acquire a CS degree so they can have that kinds of advantages in the real world.
Hmm seems u are new in searching for jobs...
HR They put a huge list of requirements they have no idea what they even mean. Compouter science has nothing to do with web development. I been doing this for 20 years and dont even have a bschelor in anything. Most full stack dont go to college.
They put bachellor required to scare newcomers like you
Who needs this are self-taught programmers which finished learning programming via courses or bootcamps and they want to apply for a job but don't want to compete against programmers with CS degrees.
What I could do is create a platform like a job board in which HR people can find self-taught programmers and they can have more confidence while applying for these kinds of jobs. This would solve the problem of finding a job in which they can perform the same tasks better than a person with a CS degree.
Btw, Many startups have been recruiting programmers without a CS degree for a while now. Udemy & Coursera certifications can add value, Of course one should be able to prove their programming skill without a degree creating and contributing to open-source projects has proven to be successful for many.
