• I've seen people with BMW/Audi but without a fire extinguisher in their house in India, I guess it's some form of extraordinary optimism regarding one's life. Fire safety awareness is generally low in the country.


    You can get a standalone smoke detector for < 500 INR ($7), it's when you add connectivity, control hub for managing all the sensors it tends to get expensive. Even if you add connectivity, smart hub it shouldn't be at the price shown by you; they seem to have exaggerated markup. You can DIY connected smoke alarm for cheap using MQ sensor, NodeMCU (or) standalone 433 Mhz sensors, SDR, Raspberry Pi; that's how I've done it.

    Check those out, if that works out for you and if you think you can build a better commercial solution than what's available on the market give a shot at this need gap by building your own product.
