▲ ▼ Following work of a non-acting member from films
Many times I like the work of a member from a film crew such as, cinematographer, visual effects director, music composer, stunt coordinator, dialogue writer, director etc. who are not actors or at-least not lead actors. I feel they don't get the attention they deserve in making a movie great.
I want to follow the latest work of a cinematographer, visual effects director, dialogue writer, stunt coordinator etc. I liked in a movie. Actors, especially lead actors get stupendous coverage on television and online; but others from the film crew who had put exemplary effort don't get covered about their latest work.
A fan like me who would like to know about the latest work of these professionals, would watch a movie/series for their work but have no mechanism to get the required information and hence the need gap. Of course, some of them might have twitter accounts; but I would like to get updates on just their latest work and not their personal/world views; so Twitter doesn't fill this need gap.
This thread is old but I developed exactly what you ask for: a webservice, that lets you browse through all of TMDb's database and optionally register and create subscription lists, where you can follow actors and other filmmakers. You will be notified (currently only by email) as soon as new releases are announced. I synchronize my database with TMDb's database once at night, so you only get one email per day maximum with aggregated notifications of all upcoming releases - as long as there were any found that night.
I don't limit my service to actors, directors or some few jobs. I mirror all of TMDb's data and all jobs included.
I recently opened my website for beta users, so be prepared for bugs and updates quite often ;-) I am using it myself every day and would love, if it was of help for other people, too.
Check it out at: https://skriber.tv
Nicely done, I think Skriber can have more conversions if you can add a sample of how the email from Skriber would look like in the top of the home page to motivate people to sign-up instead of directly asking for sign-up.
Thank you for your feedback. And you are surely right! I just deployed an updated landingpage and included a screenshot in the first section below the fold.
Hey looks great, exactly what I wanted. But when I try to add someone it doesn't warn me to create a list first and so the 'Add' keeps spinning. Also what's the difference between Skribber list and Watchlist?
The process is not yet optimized. You need to create a list first, then are able to add people on that list. Reading that someone stumbled over it makes it a top priority for me new. Give me a couple of days to fix it!
Watchlists are lists for movies, tv shows, seasons and episodes. Keep lists for movies you want to watch, movies that are oscar contenders, best movies of the 80s...anything is possible. In the future you can filter the contents for movies, you haven't seen yet. And follow other user's watchlists and be notified, when they add content.
Skribelists are the relevant lists for following people (skribe => to subscribe). Add people you want to follow and be notified of, when new releases are announced.
And another cool thing: for each list you can display a collection of all movies / shows the people on your list worked on / appeared in. And it even shows, if more than one of your subscribed people worked on that movie. I think that's great to discover movies you missed, where 2 or more of your favorite actors appear in.
Btw, may I invite you to follow us on Twitter? It's easier to give updates about changes, added features and fixed bugs. And one more follower is one more person to help spread the word ;-)
It's nice that you acknowledged the issue and thanks for the explanation.
I will follow Skriber on Twitter.

Hi!
I was sent here from Reddit. I also wanted to follow the projects of my favorite filmmakers so I created an app to do just that, it is called FilmScout https://filmscout.app I have been working on it for the last 5 months. It would be great if you can give me some feedback.
I would like to follow the career of a non-acting member as well. e.g. Then stuntman in the Matrix series, Chat Stahelski went on to become a very successful director with the Keanu Reeves starrer John Wick, it would have been very interesting to follow his career path.
Hi,
I also wanted to follow the projects of filmmakers such as Chad (I have enjoyed the John Wick movies a lot), so I created an app to do just that, it is called FilmScout https://filmscout.app It would be great if you can give me some feedback.
Hey, thanks for sharing!
The target audience is clear i.e. anyone who watches movies for its creators, I would suggest promoting it to anyone who talks about movie creators and how a movie is made on Twitter (Zapier can be helpful).
Thanks for your reply!
Yes, I have access to all the artists in themoviedb through their API, but right now I'm just focusing on directors, cinematographers, writers, editors, and music composers. Later on, I plan to add more job titles.
Coincidentally, on the development side, the two features you mention are on the pipeline, notifications being the priority.
I am at a point right now where I'm happy enough with the app to start promoting it. It has been difficult to figure out what to do in terms of promotion and where to find and how to contact the target audience, so I'm thankful for the tip on how to do it with Twitter and Zapier. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot for your time.
