Not OC, but the thing with most of these international media articles is I want to read an ft.com article maybe once per year. Tomorrow it's another media with another article. Why would I want a subscription to read one single article?

Sounds like you just hit on a business model... multi-subscriptions to news. You could change the world with that.
And I seem to agree with them, Subscription for news is the best way to monetize and for fair reporting, free from the clutches of the advertisers. But a typical news consumer reads news from multiple sources and so subscribing to each one of them is not viable for most.
You may be on to something with this. In a similar way that you can see the same movie on different streaming services.
Netflix Inc. NFLX -3.52% shares fell 35.1% on Wednesday, recording their worst day since 2004, after the streaming giant reported that it lost subscribers in the first quarter - https://www.wsj.com/articles/netflix-stock-price-plunges-premarket-after-subscriber-loss-11650449002 .
