• I can recognise this problem.

Any hardware based solution needs to involve a GSM module(modem), which with latest 4G/LTE only networks can cost more than an entry-level smartphone of a leading manufacturer with many more features and so likelihood of mass market HW based solution is low considering the size of the need gap.

SMS sync apps for android are available - https://play.google.com/store/search?q=SMS%20sync, but security of such apps are of paramount concern and so they are best avoided. Perhaps DIY android app which creates a secure tunnel to a web server owned by you is a much better option.

You can sync an android phone with a chromebook and access the SMS via Messages app through Internet, same with iOS on macOS Messages. All these solutions require your phone to be kept online in the remote location and  keeping the battery healthy is a problem - https://needgap.com/problems/37-smart-power-strip-which-communicates-with-phone-power-environment .
